CHAPTER 13

Charlee

Hello, Mason Creek!

Today is going to be a good day! I’m talking coffee, work, then dinner with my two favorite people.

It’s been a couple nights since I’ve spent time with Grady and Jillian, and after our little spontaneous make-out session, we agreed having dinner every night may not be in Jillian’s best interest. Especially since what we have is so new.

So, I suggested we only do dinner a couple nights a week and once on the weekend. Yeah, that was totally stupid of me. I missed the dinners, them…us. I miss it all.

I tried to stay busy. I called and caught up with everyone from home, read a few books, checked out the shops in town, and even organized my closet—which wasn’t hard since my things won’t arrive until next week. I basically have nothing except a few dresses, yoga pants, and a couple outfits Faith let me borrow.

Thank God for finding long-lost cousins. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have been able to pair this super cute, cropped denim jacket with my cream chiffon panel cami dress. I’m totally styling in my country chic wear. Especially with these brown leather square-toed boots embroidered in ivory and turquoise. It’s a rugged, yet feminine look, and I’m digging it. Hopefully, Grady will think so too.

I grab the keys and head out the door with more pep in my step since…I don’t even remember when.

And today is my lucky day! It’s not often you find street parking, but since it’s still early, I pull right up in front of Dream Big, taking a moment to fluff out my waves and reapply this tasty lip gloss Faith gave me. One of her customers makes an organic tinted lip gloss and this one tastes just like watermelon. I haven’t been able to stop licking my lips, it’s that good.

I wonder if Grady likes watermelon.

Grabbing my purse, I slide out of the truck and cross the street to Java Joe’s. We have a coffee machine at work, but since Cole has brought me coffee almost every morning since I started, I thought it would be a nice surprise if I returned the favor.

I’m about to grab the door when Cole comes running past, almost running into me. “Hold up!” He turns around and jogs back. “Well, well, well…” Cole slides his aviators up, his hazel eyes that appear a little more greenish-yellow in the morning sun, roaming my body. “Charlee Evans looking the part.”

I wave him off. “Whatever you’re about to say—don’t.”

Cole’s eyes shine with amusement. “I mean, I’ve fantasized about it, but to actually see you in a pair of cowgirl boots is more than…”

I know he’s kidding. Cole is just a huge flirt. He asks me out just about every day and twice on Tuesday’s. Today is no different.

“Finish that sentence and I’ll accidentally forget to order your coffee.” I point to the Java Jitter logo painted on the window. “No coffee for you.”

“Fine.” He closes his eyes and starts to groan.
